26 janvier 2017

Bonjour

Millesic'

Hey guys!

Our logo

So we have a rock band and we met us just six months ago. Thomas talked to me about a band project because he was looking for a music copartner. At the beginning, he told me that he had playing for ten years so I was hesitant (I was not too skilled) but I finally accepted and now, I feel I'm better than before!

A second logo

After this, we were looking for other members and it seems that my stepbrother was a bass player (a big element of a rock band). After discussions with him, he accepted to play with us for trying. We also asked one of my own friends, who's a guitarist too, and he enjoyed this idea because it's his last year at in high school de la Mer et du Littoral. Now they have finally joined us as permanent members and we have a big team spirit!

So we play rock music. We can play just six tracks but we will repeat more to play on stage! The next tracks are those we actually play :

"I love Rock'n Roll" by Joan Jett

"We will rock you" by Queen

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana

"Californication" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

"Cendrillon" by Téléphone, a french rock band from the 80s. They are the favorite band of Thomas...

"Feeling Good", a cover of Muse

What do you think about  the music we play, the logos, ...?

     Niels and Thomas ;)

What about Rock music?

Hello music friends!

Today, I'm gonna talk about the music style which for me is THE best ever!  I discovered it four or five years ago when I met my best friend Theo, I listen to his music (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin...) So I began to listen Rock and my father (who's a guitarist) gave me many CD of many bands (with Eric Clapton) Now time has passed and I love to play Rock on my own guitar!

Rock'n Roll demonstration

So, we're coming to the big subject of this topic: Rock'n Roll ! This music  originated from your country: the United States and was born during the early 1950's. Rock has its origins in Blues, Boogie-Woogie, Jazz and Gospel music. One thing to notice, it's that although elements of Rock can be heard in blues records from the 1920's and in country records of the 1930's, the genre did not acquire its name (the Rock) until the 1950's.

Eric Clapton on stage

So now, I'm gonna talk about Clapton, aslo called Slowhand, was born on the 30th march 1945 and is now referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all the time! Eric Patrick Clapton is an English Rock and Blues Singer, songwriter and before anything a guitarist! He is the only one to enter three times in th Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame! So, if you don't know him (and that should be very strange!) you must know these Clapton's tracks:

"Cocaine"

"Tears in Heaven"

"Wonderful Tonight"

I think I mentioned the most important, so I'm really looking forward to your answer!

     See You soon :)

What about Jazz music?

    Hi American friends!

The BLFAC logo

So I'm gonna speak about jazz music for many reasons. The first is because I like it... I really began to like jazz a year and half ago when I saw the film Whiplash. Then I went to Blue Lake, a fine arts camp in Michigan last summer. I also discovered American daily life for three weeks and played jazz in a combo. The second is because playing rock'n roll is really amazing... but playing jazz multiply that feeling by 10.

The french poster of

Jazz came from the ragtime, born of the jigs and march music played by African American bands in New Orleans in the USA in the late 18th century.

Jazz makes heavy use of improvisation. There is a lot of styles and genres of jazz: the Ragtime (from the 1890s), New Orleans jazz (from the 1910s), Swing (from the 1930s), Bebop (from the 1940s), free jazz (from the 1950s), hard bop (influenced by rhythm and blues, gospel and blues, from the 1950s too), jazz-rock fusion (combining jazz improvisation from the late 1960s), Afro-Cuban jazz (from the 2000s), ... Jazz gave birth to funk music too.

The most famous jazz players and composers are Louis Amstrong (trompet player), Duke Ellington (pianist), Benni Goodman (clarinetist, the "King of Swing), Herbie Hancock (pianist), Charlie Parker (saxophonist, the "Bird"), Max Roach (drummer), Charles Mingus (bassist), Miles Davis (trumput player, pianist, bandleader), George Gershwin (pianist), Django Reinhardt (guitarist), ...

Papa Jo Jones

One of my favorite jazz players is a drummer called Jo Jones (aka "Papa Jo Jones", 1911 - 1985).  He influenced a lot of jazz drummers with his swing. He is one of the greatest drummers in jazz history. He is known for work with the Count Basie Orchestra and a lot of famous jazz players/singers like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Charles Mingus, Benny Goodman, ...

"Sing sing sing" of Benny Goodman, one of my favourite jazz music!

"Moanin'" by Charles MINGUS, one of the music I played in Blue Lake:

The famous Caravan of Ellington with a Jo Jones' drum solo

Give me your opinion about all of this... and have a good listening,

Thomas

I'm Thomas VEZIN and I'm sixteen. I have been playing the drums for ten years (so, yes, I was six when I began and people could not see me when I was playing...). I have been playing in many percussions ensembles, bands and orchestras. I went to Blue Lake, a fine arts camp in Michigan last summer. My favorite music band is Telephone (a famous French Rock'n roll band from the 80's) but I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Oasis too.
